Marble Range put on a strong all-round performance to take out the 2019 McDonald’s Wayne Evans Shield carnival at Poole Oval on Sunday.

Under 11 players from all six Port Lincoln clubs were greeted with mostly sunny conditions throughout the day.

Rangers started their path to the final in the opening match of the day, defeating Boston by 47 points before finishing with an impressive 33 point win against Tasman, they did not concede a single point in either game.

Wayback would find their way to the final by also not conceding a single score against them, first defeating last year’s shield winner Mallee Park by 37 points then bested Lincoln South by 27 points.

Marble Range went on the attack early, driven by the clearance work of Harvey Pearce and the attack of the Lang brothers, Lachie and Riley as well as Ollie Wilkins.

However Wayback would not make it easy, Drew Baldwin was a standout all day with his attack of the footy and the way he inserted himself into the contests, Lucas Blight won the ruck contests and used his height to take intercepting marks and Dusty Symonds was a ball magnet who helped get the ball back in Demon hands.

Rangers had the edge in the first half, Riley Lang scoring their first goal with Wilkins scoring another to give Rangers the lead 2-2 (14) to Wayback 0-0 (0) at half time.

Wayback went into attack mode at the start of the half but were repelled by an effective Marble Range defence.

Pearce continued to clear the ball effectively through the centre and near the flanks while Lachie Lang helped drive the attack.

However Wayback applied their own defensive pressure with some good tackling, especially from Symonds who continued to have a major presence across the ground and good spoiling by full back Tygh Te Wano.

Rangers would finally get their sole major of the half after Kwarnell Sumner beautifully set up Lachie Lang for the goal.

The Demons continued to push to their 50 but had to navigate a tough Ranger defence, but persistence finally paid off as Sullivan Isle swooped on a loose ball in the pocket and took advantage of a gap in the defence to run in for the goal, the sole score against Rangers all day.

Marble Range capping off a strong day at Poole Oval by taking out the final 3-4 (22) to Wayback 1-0 (6).

For his strong midfield efforts Pearce was named best player for Marble Range while Symonds was best for Wayback.

Lucas Retallick was named best player for Lincoln South while Mallee Park’s Zackariah Young was named best player for Mallee Park for a second straight year, his highlight was a spectacular mark in his side’s close win against Boston.

Marlie Fauser was named best for Boston and Phoenix Whillas was the best for Tasman.

All players received a trophy and a Redlegs jacket provided by Norwood Football Club.

The Port Lincoln Football League thanked Boston Football Club for providing Poole Oval as a venue and McDonald’s for its sponsorship of the carnival.
