Q: Did you play representative football? If so, when and which teams?
I always enjoyed playing representative football when the opportunity presented. The Mortlock Shield – Lincoln City and representing the EP were the highlights.
Q: Best player(s) you played with?
Rod Tregenza from the South Mandurah Football Club stood out the most. An absolute goal kicking machine!
Andrew North in 2001 had an exceptional season and John Sinclair – for his service and remarkable durability in the ruck.
Q: Best player(s) you played against?
Many Port Lincoln midfielders immediately come to mind but if I mentioned one I’d have to mention a dozen. There was a constant changing of the guard over the years. Scott Feltus (Mid West) was a player I always admired.
Q: Who was the best and/or favourite coach(es) you ever had?
Jeff ‘Jesse’ James at Central Yorke Cougars coached me at a significant time in my career, when I was transitioning to senior football. Gordon Sumner – Warburton Football Club – would have been the best all round.
Q: What is your most memorable game(s) as a player?
2002 Grand Final against Marble Range, it could have gone either way.
Q: What advice would you give to the next generation of footballers?
To develop bonds and mateship with your teammates and to have each other’s backs – no negativity.
The friendships can last a lifetime.
Q: Are there any game rules you would like to see changed?
I’d like to see the holding the ball interpretation tweaked to make it easier for the umpires to adjudicate. (AFL level)
Q: Are you still involved in football? If yes, in what capacity?
I am involved at the Lincoln South Club as a volunteer and supporter. Under Yoey Wagner’s coaching, I am enjoying watching the players that I played with, taking their game to a new level. It’s great to see their hard work reflecting on the score board.
Q: Anything else to add?
Credit to all the players, supporters and volunteers that keep turning up to support their Clubs when participation numbers are declining.
